I have two planted aquariums:
55 gallon
- CO2 injection using pressurized cylinder controlled with PinPoint PH controller. Pumped via MaxiJet 1200 powerhead through AquaMedic 1000 reactor modified with venturi loop back to powerhead intake. PH maintained at ~6.35-6.45 to keep drop checker with 4dKH solution steady green indicating CO2 of roughly 30ppm. Timer turns system on approximately 2hrs before lights on and off 2hrs before lights off.
- Substrate – about 4″ mix of standard aquarium gravel, Seachem Flourite and Eco-Complete.
- Lighting – 4×65 watt Coralife power compact flourescent. One strip on for full 10 hours and second strip on for 4 hours in middle of lighting period via timers.
- Filtration – Eheim 2028 canister filter w/ mechanical and biological media.
- Fertilize using estimative index with additional dosing of 1/8 tsp K2S04 3x a week. Weekly 50-60% water changes with tap water, topping off once or twice a week with RO water from Kent Maxxima Hi-S filter.
- Fish – (1) Siamese Algae Eater, (1) Pygmy/Dwarf Puffer, (2) Neon Tetra, (1) Glowlight Tetra, (3) Angelfish, (5) Swordtail
- Plants – Red Rubin (Echinodorus rubin), Java Fern (Microsorium pteropus), Ludwigia Broad Leaf (Ludwigia repens), Baby Tears (Hemianthus micranthemoides), Glossostigma (Glossostigma elatinoides), Pogostemon stellatus, Red Myrio (Myriophyllum heterophyllum), Java Moss (Vesicularia dubyana), Stargrass (Heteranthera zosterifolia), Didiplis diandra
30 gallon
- Non-CO2
- Substrate – 3″ mix of standard aquarium gravel, Seachem Flourite
- Lighting – 1×96 watt Coralife power compact flourescent on approximately 10hrs/day via timer.
- Filtration – 2x Hagen AquaClear 300 power filters w/ mechanical and biological media
- Fertilize 1/wk with ~2ml trace, no water changes (see non-co2 dosing outlined here). 1/wk top-off with tap water, otherwise use RO water as described above.
- Fish – (2) Clown Loach, (4) Siamese Algae Eater, (1) Chinese Algae Eater
- Plants – Java Fern (Microsorium pteropus), Red Melon Sword (Echinodorus barthii)?, Nana (Anubias barteri v. ‘Nana’), Aponogeton crispus?, Baby Tears (Hemianthus micranthemoides), Java Moss (Vesicularia dubyana), Stargrass (Heteranthera zosterifolia), Didiplis diandra
